Want a quick and easy way to be smarter? Talk in an accent. Just keep it here in America because trying to pull it off over in England will make you just seem like a typical American doing funny voices.
Step 1. - Listen to BBC. I know how incredibly boring it is, so be sure ot take it in small doeses. You'll end up and start losing brain cells and lower your IQ dramatically instead of raising it which is not the point of this exercise. So, moving on...
Step 2. - Say bloody. It's a common phrase used in England that is used when somebody is exclaiming in surprise. "This crumpet is bloody marvelous!!" could be an acceptable use of the word. And for those youngins or for somebody who just doesn't like to sound as pompous, you can use the word "bleeding".
Step 3. - Pronounce your t's but forget the h's. I was trying to find out a way to make that rhyme, but just gave up. We American's like to subsitute d's for t's. Such as when saying something like... instead of saying "putty" with t's, we say "puddy" pronouncing it with d's.
Step 4. - Don't try too hard with the accent. We're Americans with an American accent no way to really change that. And in my case, I have the hilbilly accent thing going on too. Or I guess I should say, I gots thuh hilbilly accent thang goin arn too.
Step 5. - Best phrases to practice- "Haven't got" (without the H), "That's quite it", "Brilliant", "Daft", "Smashing", "Mate", and "Super". And say "All right?" instead of saying "How are you?" and "Ring me up" instead of "Call me". (all these phrases recieved from ehow.com)
Now, go and have a bloody super time practicing your British accent mates!
